Hampton Out

This is just freaking great:

While taking his third and final round of batting practice at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon, Hampton took a swing and fell to the ground in pain. It's still unknown whether he suffered a strained left oblique or broken rib.

How old is this guy anyway? A broken rib on a swing. Maybe he should talk to Sammy Sosa about how to break bones during daily activities.

The article goes on to say that a trade for another veteran starter could be one of the options the Braves explore. It is now even more urgent that Kyle Davies get it together. I would also consider putting Oscar Villarreal back in a starting role, he was excellent last year.

Update [2007-3-8 13:37:23 by gondeee]:

We get an update from DOB at the AJC that it is not a cracked rib but a strained oblique muscle.

Now he will need at least a month to rest his side before he starts to build his arm strength back up. And that's a best-case scenario.

"I've heard anything from four weeks to six to eight weeks," Hampton said. "I think I pulled it pretty bad."

Hampton estimated once his side heals he would need a month to get back in pitching form, having missed the rest of spring training. So that would keep him out of action until at least mid-May.

*facepalm*
Ugh..this is not what anyone needed thats for sure....
veteran starters
I wasn't comfortable with him anyway. Let him work it out in AAA. What a huge waste Hampton has been.

Do we have any money to be pursuing starting pitching?

Harrison or Villareal?

Cormier.
No need to rush Harrison or gamble on Lerew when you have a guy like Cormier ready to go.  We can make due with him at the back end of the rotation for a couple of months.  Honestly, I'd like to see Villareal take that spot, but my guess is Cormier gets the nod.
Damn
I was hoping he would have a good enough start to trade him and his bloated salary to a really stupid rich team.
Does anyone know
Can we put him on the DL and collect the insurance money?
There goes Gonzo
I think I was the only person pulling for the LaRoche Gonzo trade. Now unfortunately I think we will send him to Boston for some starting pitching. Probably get Lester out of them for him, another unproven Kyle Davies. :-(
Redman signed to a minor league contract

That was quick.  Nice cheap pickup.
