It was said by a commenter several days ago on this blog that because the Braves keep barely hanging in there, we wish they would just "shit or get off the pot." Well, they have officially been kicked off the pot.
They are now closer to the bottom of the division than they are to the top of the Wild Card. With six teams between Atlanta and a Wild Card berth, the odds of us coming back are out of sight.
So what should our goals be for the rest of the season?
Oh well, once every 16 years something like this is bound to happen...
Atlanta 1, N.Y. Mets 4 at Shea Stadium
Atlanta Record: (66-72)
N.Y. Mets Record: (85-52)
Winning pitcher - Dave Williams (5-3)
Losing pitcher - John Smoltz (12-8)
SV - Billy Wagner (35)
Atlanta 0, N.Y. Mets 8 at Shea Stadium
Atlanta Record: (66-73)
N.Y. Mets Record: (86-52)
Winning pitcher - Oliver Perez (3-11)
Losing pitcher - Kyle Davies (2-5)

Okay. It's Time to Say Uncle.
This is the most depressing day I can remember since 1990. In fact, it may be worse because back in 1990, there were no expectations. I won't stop watching and rooting for my favorite team, but this is really tough to take.Walter Roark (editor)
